Hello there! I’m Braeden Larpenter, though most people around here know me as Bass.
My callsigns are KJ5KEF for amateur radio and WSEP298 for GMRS.

Radio has become one of my biggest passions. I love the idea of real two-way communication. Not just posting online and waiting for a response, but actually keying up, talking, listening, learning, and connecting with people through radio waves, repeaters, networks, and push-to-talk technology.

Through the Bassvibes3 community, I want to make radio, telecom, push-to-talk, and other two-way communication technologies more accessible to my members. Whether it is a handheld radio, a phone running Zello, a DMR hotspot, a repeater, or some other communication setup, I want people to feel like this world is something they can actually understand and be part of.

New to Radio?

If you are completely new to radio, do not worry. You do not need to know all the terms, modes, licenses, frequencies, or equipment right away.

The radio world can look intimidating at first, but once someone explains it in plain language, it becomes a lot easier to understand. A big part of my goal is helping people get past that first confusing layer and realize that radio is not just for experts, old-school hobbyists, or emergency groups. It can be fun, useful, social, technical, and surprisingly approachable.

You can start simple. You can ask questions. You can listen and learn. You can join the Zello channel without needing a radio license. If you decide you want to go deeper, there are also paths into GMRS, amateur radio, DMR, repeaters, hotspots, and more.

We are here to make that learning process feel less overwhelming and a lot more welcoming.

For members who want to try push-to-talk communication without needing a radio license, we have a Bassvibes3 Zello channel.

Zello lets you use your phone like a walkie-talkie. It gives the community a simple way to experience PTT-style communication from almost anywhere, even if you do not own any radio equipment.

This is a great option for members who are unlicensed, too far away for local radio, or just want an easy way to try radio-style communication.

Bassvibes3 DMR Talkgroup

For licensed amateur radio operators, we also have a DMR talkgroup available through BrandMeister.

DMR is a digital voice mode used by amateur radio operators around the world. With a DMR radio, hotspot, or compatible setup, licensed hams can connect over the BrandMeister network and talk from nearly anywhere.

Our DMR talkgroup gives licensed members a place to meet up, experiment, and enjoy radio together as part of the community.

Please remember that DMR on BrandMeister is still amateur radio. That means users must follow amateur radio rules, identify properly, avoid commercial traffic, and keep things appropriate for the air. However you can listen right in your browser, even without a license, by using the link below.

Licensing Matters

Different communication systems have different rules.

Zello does not require an amateur radio or GMRS license, so it is the easiest place for most members to start.

Amateur radio, GMRS, and other radio services may require proper licensing before transmitting. If you are not sure what you are allowed to use, ask first. I am happy to help point people in the right direction.

The goal is to learn, communicate, and have fun while still respecting the rules that keep these systems working for everyone.
